WELCOME TO ADIRONDACK CASKETS!
An extra large person is more expensive to bury because an oversized casket and concrete vault are required. Ours can hold a person 6' 6" tall, weighing up to 300 lbs into a standard size vault. Lightweight, yet strong, they were designed with an architect and are sturdily constructed. We can save you money!
And Just How Did This All Come About?
Barbara's vision startled her. Not knowing what to think, she later realized that her talents and training might enable her to do this. For a middle-aged single mom, partly disabled, facing obstacles was nothing new. Determined to better her life by moving to Lake Placid where she could breathe easier, she had no idea how this could happen but committed to it anyway.
Undiagnosed at the time, suffering with something like Addison's Disease (called Neurally Mediated Hypotension), chronic asthma and other unrelated maladies, becoming self-employed seemed impossible. Strong in faith though weak in body, she knew it would take a miracle for this to come about but she believed in miracles.
Several New York State agencies opened their doors and resources to her and step by very little step she went forward. The SBDA, VESID, HAPEC, NATC and ANCA all contributed at various stages; guidance, encouragement and tools needed. Her doctor gradually peeled away symptom after symptom to help her feel better so she could actually do the work.
Community college twenty years before taught her basic woodworking skills, though picture frames were all she had made. Some knowledge in house construction influenced her unique, copyrighted designs.
Pitfalls and set-backs became the norm as she plodded ahead. Inspiration at times propelled her forward, while other times the rug was pulled out from under her and she'd lay flattened. No easy venture was this. Thinking that funeral homes would welcome her work, she found their doors closed. Owned by large conglomerates and contracted to big manufactures, they were not interested. Reaching the end of her rope, everything went into storage for several years. Waiting was all she could do, hope and pray as yet another new physical ailment sorely afflicted her known as Polymyalgia Rheumatica.
Through friends' prayers and by her continued persistence, doors began to open again with unexpected opportunities as her condition improved. Hoping to inspire those who may have given up on achieving their goals and dreams, she shares her life's challenges and stories of faith, when asked. Ultimately, she wants to revolutionize the dark, gloomy funeral industry by infusing more light!
Whether anyone else benefits from her journey or not, she has, in ways unforeseen or unimagined. Who would have ever believed this vision would materialize along the paths it did? Who would have realized the potential for creativity in someone so terribly ill? Who, but God, could take a life seemingly past its prime and elevate it to shine?
Through her beautiful, unique artwork and interesting testimony, may God Bless You, Too!
